A men's leather derby in a plain formal cut, with the lacing panels stitched on top of the vamp so the throat opens wide and the shoe takes a higher instep than a closed-laced oxford would. The toe is a soft round almond with a lightly waxed finish, and the quarters are cut low around the ankle. Underneath is a slim stacked-look heel and a moulded rubber sole with shallow grooves, so it reads as a dress shoe but grips a wet pavement. Most versions are plain-fronted; one adds a fine perforated pattern across the toe and quarters.
