A solid clear glass sphere, polished all over so there is no flat spot and no seam line to break the surface. Because it is solid rather than hollow, it acts as a lens: whatever sits behind it appears inverted and sharpened inside the ball, which is why the same spheres are used as photography props as well as ornaments.
